The photo above was taken at the beach near our home on a calm, peaceful day.   This photo shows the same beach with Hurricane Irene, which was well offshore, kicking up the surf.

Like the stormy weather, the storms of life can batter us. We can seek refuge with the Lord. Psalm 107:2-30 says, “The Lord can keep us safe in the storm. Then they cried out to the Lord in their trouble, and he brought them out of their distress. He stilled the storm to a whisper; the waves of the sea were hushed. They were glad when it grew calm, and he guided them to their desired haven.” (NIV)

Have you ever been in a hurricane or some other kind of storm?

I have not ever been in a hurricaine but the storm that devasted out town on June 29th of this year was the worst storm that I have ever been in. I have heard that the wind of a tornado sounds like a locomotive and the wind that night sure sounded like that. They called the storm a Derecho but I do believe that a twister went through our area. This is when we lost a huge tree in our yard. the wind was just swirling the top of the tree and then it uprooted. This wasn’t a small tree either, the base of it was like five foot round. With this past hurricaine that hit the east coast just this past week, we had six inches of wet heavy snow and they were calling for blizzard conditions but thankfully we did not have that. Further north on the east coast were hit badly by the hurricaine. My prayers are with all of those who are still without power and trying to clean up from the storm. I understand what it is like to be without power from a storm. Our power went off that night of the storm and was off for six days and it was so terribly hot. We must always look to the Lord for help no matter what our trials are. He will guide us through them.

After reading what I just typed, I want to also add that not only have I prayed for those in states in the north but all who went through the hurricaine.

    • Mary, yes our prayers are definitely with those who have been hit hard by Sandy. I can’t imagine what they are going through. We had some tropical storms that knocked out power for us for a few days. Like you said it was hot, but that is better than having cold and no heat.
