Staying Happy

As I stated in one of my earlier posts this year, I want to be joyful no matter what the circumstances are. My older daughter was instrumental in giving me this goal. She inspired me through her blog. She has been blogging about things that make her happy, but one of her posts was about something that could have made her very unhappy, but she chose to look on the bright side of the situation. I hope you will take the time to read her post. It inspired me. I hope it does the same for you.

Philippians 4:12 “I know what it is to be in need, and I know what it is to have plenty. I have learned the secret of being content in any and every situation, whether well fed or hungry, whether living in plenty or in want.”

    There are so many things that make me happy like being with my family and friends, having good eyesight to be able to read makes me happy. I had the opportunity to have lunch with my best friend yesterday. We usually are able to have lunch together once a week. Her birthday is at the end of this month and so during our conversation over lunch, we started talking about her birthday and I was trying to find out if there is anything that she really wanted. The more we talked I was able to get some ideas of what to get her for her birthday. She loves cookbooks and she got a Nook for Christmas. So today i went out and bought her a cookbook and I am going to give her a gift card to be able to purchase some books for her Nook. I also bought Montana Match. I saw it when I was looking at the cookbooks and now I can’t wait to read it. Knowing that we have a Father who loves, protects, and provides for us makes me very happy. Winning the Kindle with all of your books would make me very happy also. I told my friend that I really would like to have a Kindle because of space. My bookshelves are full and I don’t want to part with any of my books. I want to be happy and joyful in whatever circumstances I find myself in also. Merrillee, I always enjoy reading your posts.

    • Shannon, I guess blogging is a way to connect with people. I’ve blogged on group blogs before, but I just started my own blog back in December when I revamped my website. My biggest problem is being technically challenged and not always knowing how to get the photos, etc. where I want them to be. :)

    There are several things that make me truly happy and joyful, the first being my kids…specifically their laughter. :-) The second is serving. I find that when I set out to be a blessing to someone, I am the one who ends up feeling the most blessed. Thank you for your blog and for blessing others through it!

    • Shannon, children’s laughter is such a happy sound. That’s one of the reasons I like to include kids in my books. Yes, serving others really makes one happy. Thanks for reading my blog.

    What makes me happy is reading a good book. I was up until 1am this morning reading Hunger Games and was so engrossed, I moved right on to the second book before crashing. I just love those moments. :)

    Reading your books makes me happy! Actually I just love reading books period. I enjoy Christian fiction. My Family and my Church family make me happy too but most importantly I’m happy in the Lord!

    I would love to start a blog site to share reviews of the books I’ve read or am reading. Right now is not a good time for me. My sister and myself are caregivers for our mother who has Dementia. Whew! I tell you some days are difficult to get through.

    reading i think makes me happy so does photography.

    • Aimymichelle, reading is a wonderful activity. It can open our lives to worlds beyond our reach. Photography is marvelous. I love my digital camera, but I’m terrible about printing out my pictures now. :)

    I have so many things to be happy about but one thing that gives me constant and abiding joy is knowing that all of my kids not only love the Lord but have a personal relationship with Him.

    Your resolution SO ties into my resolution for this year: To learn to be more happy about and thankful for the things in my life that I DO have instead of dwelling on the things that I DON’T have.

    As for what makes me happy — it is seeing my granddaughter smile!
